Things have been in a lull the last couple of weeks. New Year's came and went without a hitch. The first couple of weeks in January 2011 were just great.

I had a bit of a hiccup in my routine when a good friend decided to visit me for a weekend just for fun-- and most of the items on her list of things to do involved eating. So I spent most of last weekend being the good host, and making sure my guest was happy. Now I understand how I gained so much weight 5 years ago-- a lot of my time was spent socializing with friends... which meant meeting at a bar or a restaurant. Snacking or eating sometimes when you aren't even that hungry really does a number on your system!

Anyways, after my friend left, I immediately got a bit of a cold-- which would make you think that I would lose my appetite, but for whatever reason, it was the opposite. I am wondering if it has to do with the extremely cold weather we've been having? I keep craving hot foods and am feeling very nibbly.

I can *feel* the extra food clinging to my stomach and starting to turn to fat (does not feel good), so I am going to approach the next few days with a light hand when it comes to food + going to the gym. I probably undid any weight loss I had, but it's not over yet! :) I have a "soft" 1st goal of June for 25 pounds of weight loss, which sounds safe, yes? A friend is having a wedding then, and it's black-tie optional (i.e. she wants us to absolutely dress in black-tie, lol). I always dread shopping for dresses because of my size, and then showing up to the event, only to be the only one resembling a beached whale. So I must get on it!

The good news is that my Amazon order for a kitchen scale and digital bathroom scale has come in, which means I can start monitoring my food intake and weight much more carefully and often. I cannot wait to start playing around with my new gadgets this week.

Day Two:

In the Morning...

Today is going well so far! I decided to try a quick poached egg recipe (submitted by member mycasp) that caught my eye last night.

I LOVE over-easy eggs. What, poached eggs in the microwave? I had to try it. When I have the time to make breakfast, I like to toast one of those multi-grain Thomas' English muffins (100 cals, 8 grams of fiber), fry an egg, slice a small bit of hard cheese, and slap it all together. Sometimes I add a squirt of spicy Sriracha chili sauce for a kick.

So the notion that I could make the eggs much faster than frying, and also in a much healthier way, really appealed to me. I had my breakfast in 5 mins, nom nom nom!

Today is also the christening of my Copco 1.6 oz eco-friendly reusable coffee cup! In an attempt to save money (usually hit Dunkin Donuts for coffee before work) and time, I brought my own hot beverage to work today. For those who drink a lot of coffee or tea out, sometimes Starbucks or Dunkin' will even offer you a small discount (like $0.50 or something) for bringing in your own cup. Random Ruminations...

So I am doing research and preparing to complete a body flush/detox right after the New Year.

I was reading an article about how our bodies can get very inflamed by (unknown) consumption of toxins through our everyday groceries. Something in there about how toxins are stored in our fat cells, and if there are too many toxins present to be flushed out, the fat cells expand even further to accommodate the absorption of these extra toxins. Interesting! This makes logical sense to me, because I've traveled a bit in less developed countries, and I am limited to freshly cooked food prepared from local markets and bottled water. No mass produced veggies, meat, my beloved diet coke, etc. Each and every time, my plump midsection seems to shrink down flat, but then comes right back whenever I return home to my normal routine.

Either way, a detox sounds like a good way to give your digestive and intestinal tract a rest... So I am thinking of doing a 1-2 week light detox, especially since I've been experiencing a bit of a rumble-y stomach lately. This usually indicates that my internal system is out of whack, so I'm thinking a detox soon is a good idea.

Does anyone have thoughts about what I read about toxins and detoxing? Any recommended plans for a thorough (but NOT unhealthy) detox? Should I invest in something like a juicer?

Any comments, tips, etc are highly appreciated! :)
