I am a 39 yo woman who topped out at 389lbs years ago. I did the low-carb diet the first time at the direction of my gynocologist who told me I had all the symptoms of having PCOS. That was in 2004 and I got down to 335 before I gave it up. Years & a cardiac arrest later, I maintained a weight of about 365lbs. High blood pressure and joint pain has plagued me during the last 10 yrs or so and I got tired of being tired... and run-down. So, I started it again in February and have been on it off and on to... KEEP ME ON IT! I do the very low-carb diet (less than 25 grams) ALL THE TIME so that I can SEE the weight come off. I have indulgance days (still REFUSING to drink carbs) that equal about 5-10 days a month but still taking advantage of the appetite-suppressing affect of ketosis and being somewhat "carb-conscious." It is ABSOLUTELY ok b/c again, I see the weight coming off... and I don't need to get any saggier than I am or was at 389 b/c I lost weight too quickly. It works for me... VERY well.
I'll be 40 this year and SHOULD get this right... and I am. I feel 100% when I'm doing the low-carb; my mind is clearer, I actually feel "light" when I move, and my daily and continuious headaches I had in the past have, well, stayed in the past. I love the low-carb lifestyle. It has genuinely helped me to be a better me... Now if I can just get motivated to move my jelly more (exercise), life would be pretty SWEET. ;)
