I have the common middle-age problems of expanding waistline, elevated triglycerides and cholesterol, and borderline BP. My weight has really shot up in last 2 years. After reading "Why We Get Fat; and What to Do About It" by Gary Taubs I am convinced that low-carb is the way to go for me, and the Atkins plan seems to make that easy to do. I am lucky in that my DH is also interested in doing this with me. He is reading the book and brushing up on the acceptable foods for Atkins Phase 1 Induction.

I am currently enrolled in online school for medical coding. I love to crochet and am very active in a popular online community for knitters, crocheters, and spinners. I love cats, we have 4 living with us and I volunteer twice a week with a local cat rescue organization.

I began cooking at age 11, am very experienced plus I love to cook! DH and I are foodies and we love beer! But I guess beer will have to wait until we are on maintenance and then only an occasional treat. I am looking forward to finding new low-carb dishes to cook, and since I'm pretty creative in the kitchen I'll probably be contributing some recipes of my own after a while.
