Diet, it really is a four letter word... I've spent two weeks on the induction phase and have lost a whopping 8 lbs. I figure 6 is water weight because it is the same 6 I lose every time I start a new diet. Throughout my life, I've lost several people size amounts of weight and I always find myself back at square one.

I really have been diligent with minimizing the carbs so I'd say I've been successful at following the diet. Every day is a struggle because working in a school is the easiest was to sabotage a diet.... So much candy, cookies, and all kinds of leftovers... We have a table in the mail room where everyone seems compelled to bring tasty goodies that are leftover. But for the past two weeks I've been good... no nibbles.

HELP! I'm just concerned that now that I can add some carbs, I may not lose anything. I've tried the Ketosticks... I can't get them to turn purple... a weak lavender is all I can manage. Any encouragement or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Diets don't work and that is why you keep gaining and losing. In order to lose the weight and remain at your goal you must commit to a lifestyle change. If you are successful in losing the weight on Atkins and then you go back to the way you ate before, you will gain the weight back as those eating habits are what made you heavy to begin with. I wish you success on this journey, I just hope that you will commit to it for a lifetime. You've been strong so keep up the good work there. I wouldn't be too concerned about the ketosticks not turning purple, they rarely do for me either. Your weight loss may not be really fast but that's okay, just keep going.

I am not on Atkins - following SB - and it has been working very well for me. I also incorporated exercise into my daily life - that makes a big difference - while it doesn't always show up on the scale - I can tell it in my clothes and my body is more toned and healthy! No more aching joints and I feel like I have so much more energy! 8 lbs. lost in a matter of weeks is a major accomplishment - think about the carbs you are adding and add them back in moderation - choosing only those that provide the most nutrition and that will stick with you longer - like whole grain varieties - no white bread! Wishing you continued success!
