Why do manufacturers insist on putting sugar in canned vegetables?

This can of red kidney beans I have contains the following: kidney beans, water, sugar, corn syrup, salt, natural flavorings, onion powder, calcium chloride, disodium edta added as a preservative. And my lime beans? Cooked dry lima beans, water, sugar, salt, calcium disodium edta, calcium chloride, tumeric and other natural flavorings.

Are all canned good manufacturers like this or do some of them just put natural food in the can? I suppose if I can't find better canned beans, I'll have to start taking the time to cook them myself.

One thing you definitely DON'T want to have is anything that contains high fructose corn syrup, or corn syrup, or thing else that includes processed (refined) sugar. I usually purchase organic canned veggies.

Have a look for organic tinned vegetables. They tend to be a little more expensive but don't contain crap!

many people believe that these unecessary ingredients are added to things because we have a surplus of them due to the excessive farming of corn and soy. In order to make it profitible, it has become ubiquitous in our foods and, especially in hydrogenated form, is pretty bad for you. It's a conspiracy! ;)
