Today is my third day of Atkins and so far everything has been going well. I've been finding things to snack on besides sugary snacks and I discovered neufchatel cheese which is really good.

My only problem has been energy. I've been falling asleep early and I'm not sure if this is the diet or the lack of caffeine. I'm wondering if I should drink a bit of caffeinated tea to try and balance that out. Is it better to ween off caffeine or quit cold turkey?

I also struggle with caffeine. I have ADD so I have always used caffeine to keep myself focused. If you have stopped caffeine and you are falling asleep early you are probably just tired. Part of Atkins is paying attention to the signals your body is sending you (eat when your hungry, stop when you start to fill full). My sleep patterns tend to improve greatly when I don't drink anything with caffeine and I get a much better rest. You will be amazed in the next couple of weeks how great you feel with all the chemicals out of your body. If your energy doesn't improve I would look at the exercise you are doing (are you overdoing it, or underdoing it?) before adding caffeine back into your diet. Somewhere in the book Atkins does say that a little caffeine could be ok for some people but that it could increase cravings and slow weight loss. Good Luck and keep it up.

caffeine can cause you to have cravings .... i still have me coffee and other caffeinated drinks "some" ... i need my caffeine though so i guess everyone is different. i tried to quit cold turkey and it wasn't pretty, the last morning with no coffee .... i almost got divorced, lol
