Hi FatSecret fam! I've nothing too exciting to report. I found a couple new breakfast recipes: the 90 second keto bread Kaysea shared last week, and a porridge made with mashed banana, coconut milk, and coconut flour. Both are very good and filling. I had a peanut butter sandwich for the first time since I started SCD this summer, so that was nice and nostalgic (and I stayed legal).

I made a red and black bean chili last week that was pretty bomb and I'm making a spicy red lentil soup with cauliflower, spinach, and butternut squash tonight. I'm excited to see how the lentil recipe turns out. Soups make winter so much more bearable. I also plan on making some banana bread and baked apples this week. I got so burned out with my healthy breakfast choices that I started skipping and then overeating at lunch or dinner. These new ideas will help keep me on track by starting my day off right.

I found a whiskey bar over the weekend that has an amazing selection and a bartender with great taste to make recommendations. I'm happy to find a replacement for the craft breweries I used to hang out in, but I need to learn some self control if I'm going to socialize in bars again. I'm torn, because I'd like to have a bit more of a social life, but I don't want to make a habit of over-indulging. It has a lot to do with the company I keep when I'm bellied up to the bar, I think. My former roommates, who are younger than I am and still in "party mode," visited Saturday and enabled me to drink two more whiskeys than I should have. With so many cool establishments in Indianapolis, it's hard to try and see all the new places and not get carried away. Do you have tips for staying within your limits and enjoying your favorite alcoholic treats in moderation?

My method probably doesn’t fit your style, definitely not whiskey. I get bottled beer and request the caps, then put each one in the same pocket. I quit when it’s uncomfortable.

I’ve been on heavy duty medications for decades and don’t like making an issue of being disabled and not being ‘normal’ because people have a tendency to get weird about it and start to treat me like I’m a deadbeat loser riding the system or I’m stupid. (It’s funny, now that I’m getting older, I’m just treated like I’m old!) But I would agree to be the designated driver and so I could nurse a creamy drink and switch to soda or water with an easy excuse after one drink without being unsociable or weird.

Camisha, here are the urls (doctored so FatSecret doesn't hide them) for the keto breads I've been using: http://insidekellyskitchen DOT COM SLASH recipe SLASH 90-second-coconut-bread http://insidekellyskitchen DOT COM SLASH recipe SLASH 90-second-almond-bread Glen, coffee dates are a good idea. I also really like kombucha (plus it's good for my gut), so that may be a good substitute, too. SM, we Uber because parking in that part of town is nearly as expensive as hiring a driver. That's not a bad idea, though. Maybe I'll go on Sundays when parking is free, just have one drink, and then gtho of there.
