As odd as it seems, I've had people use that top comment almost verbatim.

LOL! I needed a chuckle today, thanks NM, maybe it was the magnets that kept me fanning the refrigerator door last night!

There's a commercial that comes on the TV frequently targeting people who want to lose weight, which is the majority of the population in the US. Says they have the best medications to suppress appetite and burn fat so you can lose weight. Sadly most people are looking for that easy fix, take the magic pill and be thinner, happier, healthier. Nice drop NM.

My Motto: "If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse."

HCB. I once read also that most people don't care if they're right or wrong, they just want the most plausible argument. I think that's true. In this day and age of 'experts' you can decide what you want to believe and then find an expert to agree with you. Whether it works or not is inconsequential. Most plausible argument indeed.

The second comic is a hoot! I love it!

The first one....ugh. Every time people ask me how I lost the weight I've lost (which is actually 113lbs at this point), I always give people this awkward look because they stare at me, doe-eyed, like I must hold some secret of the universe when all my secret is *ahem* "diet" (lifestyle changes) and exercise.

Laughed out loud at the second one, and well done Emily!!

This is very true, Bill. We are largely a species of desire and not of logic. It kind of reminds me of something else. We know that diet and exercise will make the difference and so we do it and suddenly people recognize we've done it. They see only the end result and think it must be easy. It's kind of like people who are overnight successes. Nobody wants to acknowledge the 18 hour days for 20 year prior to that. I get a kick out of the people who say 'My friend can eat anything she wants and never gains weight'. Well, odds are what your friend wants to eat and what you want to eat are two completely different things.

Right? Like all the commercials selling exercise machines, yea, you use them you have a better chance losing weight (especially after spending thousands of dollars!) or exercise videos, yea, you have a better chance of losing weight if you participate. Canned diet programs, yea, eat what they tell and/or sell ya and nothing else, you will probably lose weight (and once again, lots of money). Its not rocket science!

I know some people disagree but it is all about calories in vs calories out. Most people just aren't willing to make the effort it really takes.

I agree, it's all about calories in vs calories out. It's not about steps or weight lifted...

That's great! So true!

I used to think I had difficulties controlling weight because of slow thyroid and inability to exercise. This last year I found out that actually I can control weight. I just have to count calories in and out, every day. It's tedious, but it works. Made more fun, and in fact I think made possible, only by having buddies to share with 😀
