So after my 4 day spring cleaning marathon I am at around -6500 net calories, got on the scale this morning since I haven't done that in awhile and I am up 1.6 lbs. I know the scale does not tell all but come on already! My muscles are still a little sore this morning but feel pretty good over all. Looks like a very rainy day ahead and it is back to the office for me this morning.
I did make a very yummy organic beef burger on the grill yesterday. What a coincidence last night on TV was Jaime Oliver's Food Revolution and it happened to be about him trying to improve the meals in the LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District). What an eye opener, so glad I do not have kids in that school district, the food they are being fed on a daily basis is a disgrace! He did a piece on commercially processed ground beef and how the use of ammonia is used. Oh My GOD!!! I think this just lends itself to thinking about and knowing what it really means to eat healthier. It is not just about adding in a fresh salad or a piece of fruit to your daily diet. It goes much deeper including things like this....do you really know how your food is prepared/processed?

So, I am so glad that the burger I ate yesterday was from organic beef from a small locally raised farmer.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Babs, I hear ya about store bought hambuger. I have been fortunate in being able to split a cow with our cofarmer and he has a meat packing plant and I know for sure our meats are clean and lean. Same with the pork Hope your soreness gets better but that means you got alot done....Bren

Don't get me started on this subject - I see people's eyes glaze over when I talk about e-numbers and chemicals that are used in food, cosmetics and medicines. If you look at the ingredients and you cannot pronounce the names, don't eat it or put it on your skin!! People forget that your skin is your largest organ and absorbs everything you put on it - it is estimated the average woman in the UK absorbs 2kgs of chemicals into her body a year just through her skin via lotions, shampoo, conditioner, etc. All types of cancer are on the rise, it's no coincidence that this is in line with our foods and consumables getting more and more chemically processed. I try to buy as local as I can get and organic, it used to be really expensive, but the prices are going down and getting more competitive - the more of us that support organic the better the prices will get ☺

Good morning Babs. My wife watched the John Stewart Daily Show with Jamie Oliver last night. Did you see the article about the school district near/in Chicago? They are banning (not discouraging...banning) brown bag lunch and students have to buy at school. They say so they can monitor the kids meals. So you're saying a hot dog and 'tater tots are healthier than a turkey and mustard on wheat? Really??? When I was a kid, the best part of lunch was the trading of food. Hey, I have an idea, RE-INSTITUTE MANDATORY GYM CLASS!!! oh, and MAKE THE KIDS GO OUTSIDE FOR RECESS!!! I was telling my wife that we used to have soccer games that went on for days at recess. I don't have kids yet, but I hope to send them to public school. I really hope this doesn't catch on...On a happy note, Have a great day.

@Triaby - I am with you on this, just getting folks AWARE is a difficult task of itself let alone getting them to actually make some changes in their buying/eating habits.

@CMR - I didn't see JS but I did hear about the Chicago issue on the news last night I think. I don't know how a school system can ban that...aren't these parents in an uproar? Quick funny story...I have three nieces 9,7 & 5 and they all bring their lunches to school. My SIL had wanted them to have school lunch just one day a week to make things a little less hectic for her on an unusually busy week day morning. They tried it out and the first day they came home starving and said, "Mom, we aren't going to eat that food, we don't even know what it is on the plate. We just want our turkey on wholewheat and mustard with our fruit!" Oh, I love my babies!!!! Good luck to you on the kids thing, parents MUST be better advocates for the health of their families!

It is crazy the things that the USDA has allowed industry to add to our food. As for the school lunches...oh it is so much healthier, what with the Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Burger King and every other fast food franchise food that the schools can stuff into the ala carte menus at the local high school. And then there is the cost to the parents...when the kids eat ala carte, they can easily spend $10 a day on lunch! NUTS!

I LOVE Jamie Oliver... he always has something that opens my eyes. I always try to get the organic local meats because I like the taste of them but after watching a few documentaries it just seals the deal for me really.. taste be damned I do not want the crap in my body. As for the scale, I am SO right there with you girl, keep doing what your doing and eventually your scale will catch up, in the mean time you know the drill measurements, clothes and pictures and hopefully the scale gods are nice to you sooner rather than later!

I watched the series he did last year in a different school in West Virginia, he was up against beaurocracy, apathy and ignorance. He has opened the eyes of many... it's no wonder our children are fat and couch potatoes. I try to buy organic as much as I can... it's very expensive, but can be done on a tight budget like mine. The burger sounds good! I have all but cut out red meat from my diet right now, I do eat it occasionally though, I usually get steak rather than anything ground up, we have several really good local butchers in my town that I use. Have a really great day!

Sometime we have to ignore the scale and use our common sense. Glad to hear you are eating healthy. If you think about it - it is quite a testament to the wonders of the human body that it actually survives the junk we feed it.
