Still staying pretty steady. My weight fluctuates a pound or two throughout the week, but overall I'm pretty steady here as I have over the past several months.

I am doing enough to stay steady, but know I would need to make some changes if I want the blue line to go down more. Motivation waxes and wanes for me these days. Part of me thinks I need to get my act together, but part of me thinks that staying steady for the next month is just fine... and then I can work harder at losing again after the academic year ends and my schedule mellows out a bit.

Work has been challenging --as a new professor I have all the teaching and research and service stuff that is just part of the job, but also I am still trying to figure out the politics of the place and how to work well without losing sleep and stressing myself out. It has taken a lot of my mental energy and my time. So, I guess I'm leaning toward acknowledging that steady weight is about as well as I can do right now and I'll kick it into higher gear in early June when classes are over and folks relax a bit.

You have done great maintaining. Just do what you have been doing and when summer is here, then you can kick it up a notch.

I agree that its folks like you that so inspiring to me. Not only did you lose your weight but you are proving that it is possible to maintain the loss and simply gain a new healthier way of life. Im very impressed that your line stays so steady and even. Great job of maintaining

Gosh! I can totally relate to everything in your last paragraph! (Well, everything except for the stready-weight part!) I'm nowhere near that! But since YOU are--it wouldn't be a bad strategy to let yourself coast on that--maintainance is work too--and devote more energy on the other work-aspects. And this is the first time in my academic-life so far that I have taken a firm resolution to devote MORE time in putting in LESS time for the never-ending work--does that make sense? In other words, I am CONSCIOUSLY trying to put boundaries on work-related matters before they consume me entirely---as they've tended to do over the last two years...so, it wouldn't be a bad idea to work on that balance in your early years of academia..

thanks for the good advice, 08willbegreat. You're right, I know. I am certain that my gradual weight gain during graduate school was in part because of having kids, but mostly from letting myself get consumed with work and not taking care of my body. I had a good opportunity last year to really focus on the weight loss. I know, though, that I'm at risk of gradual gains again from the sedentary work and emphasis on overworking myself. You're right that figuring out that balance and boundaries sooner, rather than later, would be a good thing in the long run. Good for you in making an effort at that now! I'm working on it, haven't quite got it figured out yet.
