Inspiration during a walk around the neighborhood. ?

"You know it's time to lose weight when you are desperately tearing the house apart looking for your full body girdle just to put on your crop pants."
That is the thought that went thru my head a few weeks ago. In these past two weeks, I've purchased the right combinations of food. Set up my treadmill, yoga mat, weights and step. Taken 6 days off from work for a retreat. And am starting to care for me for awhile, instead of everyone else.
Everyone knows that one person at work that is sick all time, that's me. Looking back at my own disgust with that sick person I knew, I am ashamed of myself. You never know what happened on their path to bring them to that place.
For me, it was a hysterectomy, followed by a diagnosis of cancer. Followed by treatment that destroyed my thyroid. Followed by liver damage and more treatment. Finding out my Uncle was diagnosed with bone cancer and it was aggressive. Followed by shingles, my car breaking down and having to buy a new one, blocked intestine, death of my beloved dog, pneumonia, and the unfortunate, but inevitable, occurrence of depression and PTSD.
Whew, I'm exhausted just reading that. Can you imagine what it was like holding on during that time? Working. Caring for two sons. More pets at the vet for heartworm. But, it has passed, I made it thru it all, and now I focus on me.
So, I find myself looking forward to putting on my full body girdle. It really squeezes things together. But that only further reminds me I need to lose weight. I need to get healthy. I need to care for me. That girdle is no longer a symbol of defeat, but that of perseverance. Perseverance in that one day, "I will put my crop pants on, one Spanx free leg at a time!"
