This is protein according to google 0.5-0.7 grams of protein per pound of body weight. Average healthy adult (male or female) that IS doing some form of exercise regularly or IS trying to improve their body (lose fat, build muscle, etc.). This is the minimum I'd recommend in this case. 0.8-1 grams of protein per pound of body weight. I don't know anymore, ive been gaining so much weight I feel so demotivated for the past 4 months. I need a training buddy, I think

Denise it all depends on your own body's system of processing food. A guidline is to follow one of the various weight/fat loss methods such as a low carb/high protein or low carb/high fat eating plan. I have not seen anyone lose weight/fat from following a high carb eating plan and that is geared more towards those who want to grow bigger. So the basic idea of low carb eating is to keep carbs to under 30g whilst some people aim for less than 20g and some aim for less than 50g. This is to achieve a state of ketosis so that the body starts burning up fat for fuel. Some people follow carb cycling where they eat low carb for 3 days then have a high carb day and then start again. The general rule with protein is to have 1g to 1.5g protein per KG of bodyweight but there are some like myself who aim for about 1.8g to 2g per kg of body weight since we do weight training. A person who is not doing weight training can still consume 1.5g protein per kg bodyweight since protein causes your body to create heat to burn up calories to digest the protein and that is a proceess called thermogenesis. Some people opt for 0.8g fat per kg bodyweight. At the end of the day both calories and macros need to be taken into consideration so hitting your macro targets is all good and well but make sure it does not exceed your RDI.

Whey protein is a convenient way to add some protein into your eating but make sure that you have chosen a low carb product that gives you under 5g carbs per serving. Read my journal entry about the lab test results on various whey protein products. Some companies are inflating the values of their protein in their product labels so you are getting lesser value and protein for your money.
