My recuperation is certainly knocking any progress with my current challenges. I am thoroughly fed up with myself these days. I cannot be bothered doing any of my usual things. I have had to force myself to sit at the laptop and type this journal - normally you have to force me away from it. I am so constantly tired, sleeping anything up to 12 out of every 24 hours. I am trying to control the pain relief by restricting the Tramadol to only every second day, but the days I do not take it I feel sore and miserable.
I am logging everything I eat, but not eating everything I log. I invariably leave anything up to half my meals for the bin. Nothing takes my fancy.
The benefit of that is, along with the increasing reduction in swelling, I am now sub 200 lbs and 6 stone down from my starting point. I miss my walks, shuffling on average about 400 steps a day, but, as I say, according to my Fitbit I could sleep for Scotland.

I'm glad you wrote your journal today, Jocko, as keeping in touch with people will help with the way you feel, I'm sure. Have you read up on the side-effects of Tramadol? They can cause loss of appetite, tiredness and weakness. I read you should call your doctor at once if this happens. Maybe you need a change of painkiller. Take care, Buddy.

Maggy. Just got your PM. Thanks. Doobrie. Nurse due in today so I will discuss my pain relief with her. See what she says.

Sorry to see you being so miserable, Jocko - you're normally so upbeat. I hope the nurse has something helpful to say and do to relieve the pain. We're still here for you so stick around x

Have they checked your thyroxin levels? Healing makes the body work very hard, so give yourself time. Also possible reaction to the anaesthetic? If you feel tired, just sleep, accept it, don't get mad about it. Like everything else, this will pass.

Heidi. They were aware I have Thyroid issues and they did plenty blood tests but nothing since I got home. I am ravenous today, so maybe I have turned a corner. The nurse didn't come in to remove my staples. I thought there could be problems. She didn't want to make a house call, wanting me to go to the surgery. However, the stairs are the problem for me. They are my friend when I am fit, but my gaoler when I am poorly.

Jocko, patience my friend, I know it's frustrating but your body has just been through a very traumatic experience and as bad as we hate to be reminded of the fact......we ain't 20 anymore. As we get older it takes longer to heal. The reason you sleep a lot is because your body needs all of it's resources to facilitate the healing process and you being conscious uses resources it needs to do it's work. Listen to it, feed it when it needs fuel, give it plenty of liquid and it will pay off with a complete healing. The effects of anesthesia on the brain is pretty bad, it took me nearly a year after my surgery to feel completely normal, I was under anesthesia for nearly 7 hours.
