so I can refer back if I want; can't ever find old posts if not here.

I want to expand on my belief that a large cause of the problems today, are from what foods are available today. When I was in grade school, only ONE child was fat. One, of 400. Look at any video's of people between the 1950's and the 1980's. Perhaps most people were not in top shape, but hardly any were fat. Can we really believe that in such a short time, the entire population suddenly have lost all common sense? and are compelled to overeat? NO. I don't think so. It is about what we have available to eat, and what time we have to eat it. In 1980, the steady increase in income of the middle class, stopped. There are 4 reasons for this> 1. for 150 years, the United States had more work than workers. and about this time, 1978 to 1980, immigration reached a tipping point regarding how many people were available to work. 2. Computers were invented. 3. Corporations started outsourcing work to 3rd world countries, 4. women had to start working. (rdwolff.com). With the wife working, and long commutes to hard to find jobs, we don't have time. To eat, to study nutrition, to learn to counter the depleted foods that ARE available. It takes a remarkable person today to look and be healthy. Look around you

You made some great points. I was looking thru a high school yearbook (1964) last week. I didn't find hardly any over weight students or faculty. I couldn't believe how trim everyone was. (Including me! I weighed about 115 lbs 5'4") I also walked a bit over a mile to school and home again and was too busy running around with friends to lay about.

Thanks. :) Perspective and knowledge is power. With a true perspective, we will quit blaming ourselves, AND make different choices. :)

In the 50's and 60's in England we lived differently ( food rationing was still in place at the beginning of the 50's)you walked everyday to school and didn't expect to be taken everywhere by car .Your mum shopped at different local stores each day ie Butchers, Bakers ,Greengrocers etc ( which involved more walking). She shopped with a list and planned daily meals and prepared local fresh food, from what was available that day,she discussed the options with the store keeper. Then supermarkets arrived ,you helped yourself to what was on the packed shelves temptation was too hard to overcome with every Offer of the Day to good to miss . Thinking back I only remember one fat girl at school in the sixties and she lived in a sweet shop . I have stopped fearing natural fats and returned to using them for cooking I have cut out bread and sugar and mindless food shopping and eating and instead think about how I shop and what I eat .I have now lost over a stone this year and feel great .My new way of eating will continue this year it's not a diet just a new way of life that's made me feel good.I also fast one day a week. Hate gyms , so I put the music on and dance around the House when alone so I can turn up the volume and transport myself back to The swingin 60's in Liverpool .Yeah yeah yeah yeah X

Exercise isn't the issue, it's the chemicals and poisons that so ingrained in the American diet (and surely becoming the standard everywhere else, too) that's the real problem. High Fructose Corn Syrup, MSG, sugar, artificial sweeteners, refined flour, genetically modified high yield low nutrition crop foods, the proliferation of cheap unhealthy and fattening foods is the real problem.

Totally agree exercise is useless, if what you are putting in your mouth is rubbish.I have a rule if there are more than 5 ingredients listed on a packet put it back on the shelf and go to the fresh food counter. Sugar is a killer and more evidence is emerging daily on how all forms of sugar are toxic and unhealthy over a prolonged period. If sugar can rot tooth enamel think what it can do to your internal organs .!!
