Notes for self. Had CIMT test done today checking for cardiac disease due to elevated LDL levels that thus far have been climbing. I am nearing 8 weeks of the oatmeal experiment (cant remember when i started but sometime in January). Giving it till next labs to see if any change to LDL. Doc called in statin meds but i refused to pick up and have not informed her yet. Again, waiting on next labs. If LDL has climbed again will reconsider. Also started double walks so about 8 miles a day with the nicer weather. Don’t know if i will do this when it drops back down into the 40’s again (will still do 1x a day of course by 4 miles just maybe not 2). Trying to offset the gain of the oatmeal. Having a surprise party for my nearly 85 year old uncle in about 10 days around 35-40 people here. Wondering if that is going to be a challenge with foods i dont normally keep in the house. . Also having my cousin, his wife and 2 kids staying for 5 days which will necessitate “normal” foods i suppose in the house. Started to look online for ideas and got overwhelmed an stopped. Better get moving tho time is running out.

YOH, many "normal" foods can be adapted to have lower calories, I eat "normal" foods every day. Enjoy your party!

statins didnt agree with me. i dont know if they do with you. hope the issue can be cleared up with you working so deligently with your way of eating

That’s so cool you had a CIMT test most people don’t even know what that is! I had one done in November with a bunch of other advanced cardiac labs done just for curiosity to see what my baseline is. There is a great podcast called heart doc VIP all about heart health and longevity etc and focused on prevention and lifestyle instead of medications you can search thru them to find one on just cholesterol if I remember he does recommend certain supplements maybe niacin was one? Also if meds are needed some people have luck with a med called ezitimibe which focuses on lowering LDL has less side effects statins and many times is added in with a statin so you can take lower doses of statins etc

30 days of oats didn't change my cholesterol levels 1 point.
My cholesterol is sky high. I had a CIMT done, and my carotids were without plaque. Plaque is the culprit, not the numbers. I'm 70 years old, no plaque. Therefore, I'm not taking the statins. Why live with the side effects of statins? I will say that I have an aunt who had very elevated cholesterol numbers, and she's been on statins for 25 years. She is now 80. She did have a grapefruit size tumor removed from her lower abdomen. She has a rather large tumor under the skin on her outer thigh. Could the tumors be related to the statins? I don't know.
