CHOLESTEROL!!!!!!!!! I am genetically pre-disposed to high cholesterol. Been borderline since i was in my teens or early 20’s. I have basically taken an ostrich stance on it. You know, hide my head in the sand it will go away. Got my last labs and it has gone up drastically. Cannot for the life of me figure out what im doing wrong. My cholesterol ingestion is well below 200 often 110-130 grams per day. I do NOT want to go on statins. Decided to try and have oatmeal or broccoli or some other super cholesterol fighting food everyday. Started yesterday. Doc appt Monday to go over said labs. I am not a cusser but i sure do want to use a bunch of 4-letter words. Ive been able to heal my pre-diabetic status, homocysteine issues high blood pressure and inflammation issues thru diet and exercise but this bugger refuses to heal. Open to ideas.

Dr. Mandell has a SHORT on YouTube. He’s to the point. The title is How to lower your cholesterol and sugar. There’s a nutritionist I’ve been watching for years. Let me find her video.

IMO…Yes, whole eggs. Especially avocados. The calories are worth the benefits.

IMO…Saturated fat is NOT the enemy. We’ve totally been deceived in past years. Newer studies are out.

Also, eat more red meat! Beef is the best!

How much protein do you eat daily? I know you don't eat red meat though. How much cheese do you eat? That's not so good either . I agree with JB, watch protien powders, bars etc. That's what made me lactose intolerant. My cholesterol is also a bit high so my cardiologist did a cat scan of the heart and I scored a zero! It's the best score possible. He was amazed. My point being that it can be deceiving. Investigate your food intake. It's a lot of work but hopefully you will get answers.🩷

Certain cheeses and grass fed butter are GOID for you.

Oookay. Dr. Eric Berg and Dr. Allen Mandell are both chiropractors. Health Coach Kait is just a "nutritionist" of some sort. Dr. Pedi is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. None of these are cardiologists, most of them push Keto. If you cut out the saturated fat and still have a high LDL & total, I would take the statins. Those will drop your levels by 40% and save your life.

JB i have almost zero saturated fats. I have no more than maybe 2-3 ounces cheese per week if that and thats about it. Im baffled. If im having saturated fats in my diet im unsure of where they are coming from. Im not a candidate for keto mainly because i wont eat 4 legged animals nor most 2 legged ones and i have 3 generations of women who all died from cardiac related issues so just seems like not the smartest idea to follow a keto diet for me. At any rate will see what doc says Monday. If you see where im ingesting saturated fats please point it out to me. I dont have protein bars tho i do bake my own protein muffins and usually have a couple a day. I do hit and miss go on protein shake kicks. Body fortress chocolate protein shake with frozen strawberries and bananas blended tho. Uggggggg so frustrated. I even got my high blood pressure down to normal so why cant i get this number healthy? I think you did it right?

Storms i cant eat whole eggs. I just cant. The yolk, even if it wasn’t where the cholesterol hides, gets to me😂. And i refuse to eat a dead animal that is capable of affection etc. not a judgement just how i personally feel.

Diana im going to take my iPad to my appt Monday so doc can look at my food diary. It’s about 99-100 percent accurate on here with the exception of my coffee with 2 TB heavy whipping cream, but i will tell her about that also. Under normal conditions i strive for 100-120 grams of protein but this past month has been hit or miss with all that happens when someone close to you passes away. Hubs is executor and there is a lot of work to do at the property. Every weekend etc. finding the kitties homes helped a ton tho. I had a calcium cardiac test a year ago and it was fine so will see what she says. Guess i was better when i was younger and didnt appreciate how dangerous cholesterol could be. Also with m.i.l. Passing so suddenly and we all think was cardiac related its made me more sensitive. Good luck on your new sports mode phase! Bet that will make a world of difference for you. How’s Sydney doing?

I have genetically high cholesterol too - the only, I mean *only* thing that ever lowered it and raised the good cholesterol was the Paleo diet. I’ve tried Keto, I’ve tried avoiding saturated fat, but the only thing that worked was strict paleo. I tried the diet when it first came out, when it didn’t include sweet potatoes, etc. Basically lots of vegetables and lots of meat/seafood. I did it for about 3 years. I no longer do restrictive diets and of course my cholesterol is high again 🤦‍♀️😅 but yeah, just thought I’d share my experience! Hoping you can find a solution 🙌

@YoH: you're eating a lot of protein powder products, daily from the sound of it. It's all highly processed, chemical stuff. I'm not a fan of processed sweeteners (Equal, Splenda, etc.) and those also make an appearance in protein powders. If you can add some shrimp to a garden salad, or eat an all-natural Greek yogurt (try Fage), or have the egg whites, 8 oz of shelled edamame, or a tin of sardines, you'll hit your protein goals with real, natural food every day (aim for 50-75 grams/day -- anything more is just overkill, and your sodium levels will blow through the roof). Fibrous veggies -- cooked or raw -- can be potatoes, asparagus, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, leafy greens (spinach, kale, collard greens, etc.), plus apples & pears in addition to oats and beans (any kind) can sweep out the crap clogging your arteries.

I think your plan is a good one. Maybe the Dr will see something we missed. Sydney is doing good so far. Good appetite, playful and loving. She tires easily but that's it. The meds she takes are helping but it's still a short term solution.Thx for asking. Hang in there..💜💜💜

I would get your DNA/ Gene test. This will pinpoint your exact genetic disposition and you can implement an effective plan.

Jb between two protein muffins thats not even 1/8 of a cup of protein powder and i dont usually have protein shakes on those days but even if i do it is literally just one shake. You think that small quantity is a factor? I use 1/2 cup protein powder in entire recipe and it makes 10 so the math is pretty small. You could be right it just seems like such a small amount. I wont eat herring, sardines etc i can barely get myself to eat halibut and thats about it for fish tho once in a while i can force myself to eat salmon. Just not a big meat eater. Which leaves beans egg whites and protein shakes. I do need to up fresh produce tho for sure. I unfortunately get a bit gassy (tmi) when i have more than a small amount which no one appreciates including me.
