I've been wondering 🤔

How does everyone do a "fast"? Do you literally just starve that day or what? 🤣

Thanks in advance for your words on this subject! ☀️🙂

I couldn't do intermittent fasting. There's a few options but yes you are basically only allowed liquids with zero calories while your fasting.....my body kept telling me I was hungry when I tried.

pretty much lol. jk I just finished a 22 hour fast and thankfully only felt a bit hungry near the end so I just kept myself busy until it was time to eat something

Fasting is best done by slowly building up to it. I’m not sure what you’re looking to get out of it, but the main benefits of fasting are: -it helps some people remain in a calorie deficit more easily. -it helps some people reset their palate, particularly with things like sugar. -convenient -Aside from that, the rest of the benefits are mainly mental/spiritual. There are also a lot of benefits of fasting that are highly overstated, and/or unsubstantiated in human studies/trials. All that being said, if you think fasting might be for you, the easiest way to start is by delaying your first meal of the day by a couple of hours. Then, every few days, stretch it out a little longer until you reach your goal… because it’s easier to not eat while you’re sleeping. I’ve done various fasts over the course of my journey. Every thing from 16:8, 18:6, 20:4, OMAD, multi-day fasts. Here are a couple of downsides that some people find with fasting: -For some people it triggers binging and/or serious cravings -many people find it difficult to meet nutritional requirements in a small feeding window -if you under-consume calories for an extended period of time, which many people do when fasting, you can adapt metabolism to those lower calorie conditions, making it harder to lose going forward. That said, it is then possible to to speed it back up with diet and exercise. But it’s a lot easier to not go through that process. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

I used to do four day fasts about 2x a year. On day 2 I would stop feeling hungry and my vision was very clear, almost fresh and vibrant. I drank a lot of water with a bit of lemon juice, and I did things to keep my mind off of food.

I know some folks that swear by this approach for many health reasons - for me it’s a no-no only with a history of an eating disorder it’s way too risky to start restricting (but again, some people who don’t have an ED history and follow a system have raved about the benefits).

This is a good article on the topic from people much smarter than I am, if you’re interested: https://legionathletics.com/the-definitive-guide-to-intermittent-fasting/
