So, to continue my harrowing tale of injury and sorrow I discovered that a muscle contusion can be a truly painful experience. If you find yourself in the same situation, there are a few things you can do:
1. Cry, scream, and moan. I have been tempted by all three. 2. Ice. Truly a Godsend. 3. Wrap it. Ace bandages are great for this. Keep it compressed. 4. A hot bath. I know a lot of people don't need an excuse for this, but I'm usually a shower guy. Heating the muscle after icing is truly useful. 5. Don't use that muscle. Not always easy, but rest it up as much as possible. 6. Stretch it. Keep stretching the muscle intermittently. This has helped immensely.
I'm doing much better today, though even writing this entry has had its moments. Last night I decided I should be in traction. Of course, this was because I foolishly decided to go to the gym for a lower body workout. Even the strain of moving plates around (and deadlifts, to be fair) was a little too much for my pectoral muscle.
In happier news, I've talked my wife into going to see District 9 when it comes out. She actually seems pretty enthused about the movie. The bad news here is that I'm also trying to convince her to go see G.I. Joe. This has met with less acceptance. :)
