Here is my dilemma ... do I tell people what they WANT to hear? or what I think is what they NEED to hear?

Sometimes we all need an encourager in our lives. And I can do that, blindfolded and w/ my hands tied behind my back. (I could even type w/ my nose if I had to.)

And sometimes, we need a straight shooter! Someone who will pull no punches and basically tell us where the dog died, if that's what it is going to take to get us up over the hump!

But more often than not... we need both. Tempered with a lot of empathy and compassion, kindness and thoughtfulness.

And some days, I ask myself... who am I to speak into this person's life? To give unsolicited advice, as if I know all the answers. I DON'T! Let me make that perfectly clear.

But if something I say or write, ever provokes you to go look up information, read, and evaluate choices for yourself... then FANTASTIC! Because then, you are on your road to the place I call Maintenance Land!

It takes a willingness to put yourself out there sometimes... But others reached out to me, others invested in me ... and it's because of that time, and effort, and support and encouragement, that I am where I am today.

So, if I am ever too strong, too harsh, too easy, too ... anything... please forgive me. I am not doing it, or saying it, because of anything more than the desire I have to see you SUCCEED! I am only trying to help.

If anything I ever say is not a help... then just delete it! No harm, no foul, and I will not at all be offended. Ok? ... Ok, glad we cleared that up.

Have a wonderful day... and make it a personal goal to reach out to others and try to help them today! Remember, we are all in this together!!! Much Love.

I seem to go through fits and spurts on this site, it is a new experience to me and to be honest, the first time I opened a message from someone (not you Paula)commenting on my wedge of lemon that was not "permitted" on Atkins induction, I was surprised since I had not posted any comments and was losing quite nicely. The next few comments prompted me to go quietly amidst the noise and haste and just change my diet even though I stay fairly true to Atkins. I have come to understand that some people feel the need to instruct others as a way of keeping tabs on their own programs. Not my problem, especially when I took the time to look at some of their menus and see huge discrepencies in what was being said and what was being done. And does anyone else besides me feel like they are poking around someone's underwear drawer when they look at others' food plans? I must be old or just too busy but I can barely keep track of my own stuff.

@fshfly, lol @ the underwear drawer comment. :) I know what you mean, there are definitely some who clearly take a great deal of pleasure in pointing out what others are doing "wrong." I tend to think that even the most uneducated dieter is smart enough to sort through who is really trying to help & who is just trying to show how much they know. Pretty obvious which camp your message sender is in. :)

Oh, I am getting old and hit enter b4 I finished. Here is what I need to finish up with: I appreciate Paula's posts and journals because I need to hear about EXPERIENCE STRENGTH and HOPE. And if that sounds familiar to anyone, I have also remembered to TAKE WHAT I LIKE AND LEAVE THE REST!

You're right, so keep on giving us both. An encouraging straight shooter! :) Your remarks are always appreciated, jsfantome. So thanks.
