Am proud of myself. I have hardly skipped a beat. Relaxed a little over Christmas - has a slice or two of Christmas cake and some bubbly but nothing incredibly drastic. Decided not to worry too much for the 2 weeks I was on holidays, but still stuck to the plan mostly. I did put 2 kg back on but have lost that again. I'm quite surprised by how little I am craving sweet things. This is an incredible departure from normal and I truly believe it is because I have finally come to understand I need to eat fat and not be scared of it. Coming from years and years of low fat high carb dieting, it is quite a mental hurdle to overcome.
I have also started going to the pool every day to "swim" really not swimming per se but walking in the water. Started at 45 mins, now doing an hour a day. Great weather for it! And even though I hate to think what others think when they see me in my swimmers, have decided that I refuse to be ashamed. At least I'm there trying to do something about it!
Onward and upward. Here's to major weight loss in 2015

Good on you for getting started on such a positive note this year! And while it doesn't matter what other people think, I reckon you would only be receiving admiration for getting out there and doing what's best for you. I know what you mean about shifting your understanding of fat and dieting and such - I wondered if I was eating too little after reading a few articles about calories vs energy, and am trying to eat more. Weird diet to lose weight!

A positive start to 2015...fat & salt are essential in any diet...we are eating less fat but are becoming a fatter society...the bad boys here are sugars frequently hidden in processed foods...if you have the time make everything yourself...being in control is great for your self esteem...the best of luck for 2015

Yes I agree. And when you eat enough fat, and make everything yourself, funnily enough, you just don't crave carbs. Massive departure for me from what I have been used to. Have been on Atkins several times and lost weight but each time after a couple of weeks was overcome, I mean totally overcome, by carb cravings - to the extent I could not sleep at night. But I was not eating enough fat then. And now I see the difference. Not sticking to Atkins so much as a keto style diet now. No refined sugars AT ALL. Only eating vegies really low in carbs for now. That is working well. Has brought my blood sugar levels down massively. Amazing the changes since the last week of November last year.

I know exactly how you feel when it comes to thinking what others think of me in my swimmers, have bought 2 new pairs for this year, they fit well but am still self conscious, of course that all changes when I get into the water. happy swimming, glad to know there is someone out there walking the water with me

definitely Annie! Don't care when I'm in the water but the walk of shame to the change rooms past all the super fit swimmers doing squad training is a tad confronting ha ha

It may be confronting but you are out there doing it and THAT puts you streets ahead of hundreds of thousands who lack the intestinal fortitude to have a go. I am about eight very frustrating kgs over my goal weight. I always say good morning to just about everyone but I make a big point of acknowledging people like yourself who have larger goals and are having a go. You and those like you have my respect in spades. Roadrunner
