Not really! A pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat. But muscle is more dense and takes up less room than fat, so you can gain weight and become smaller from fat loss and muscle gain. If you are exercising a lot, your muscles can retain water to help them heal which can show on the scale as a temporary gain, no loss or smaller than usual loss. Google "why the scale lies' for insight in to water weight fluctuations. I had a friend who didn't see the scale move for a couple of months but she went down 3 or 4 sizes because of fat loss from diet and exercise. So if you are plan and exercising, then you know the gain is temporary water from something.
