I am totally a numbers nerd too. But I don't think good workout shoes should be a reward because they're a necessity. They will help you get to your goal much more responsibly. I have also tried the "X lbs a week will get me to Y lbs by date Z" but it never works. NEVER. As fastidious as I am about planning & staying consistent, my body does not drop weight consistently. But it does drop it, so that keeps me motivated. I still have milestones all over the place, & I find that rather than try to hit the next one by a particular date, I just look forward to hitting that next one & keep doin what I do. It seems like the same thing, but it's all about perspective. If I try to lose 3 lbs in a week but it takes me 2 weeks, then I've "failed." If I try to lose as much as I can by sticking to my program & it takes me 2 weeks to get to my next milestone (3 lbs), then yay! I made it! What's next?

I absolutely agree, on both points! I do need good shoes, but I'm a poor college student haha. I talked to my husband, and if I can get together the money I may just buy them next month and make a new road bike my prize. At the moment I'm barefoot running and wearing shoes for lifting etc. I've never had an injury barefoot running, but without the cushion I can't run outdoors, which is much more enjoyable than treadmill-ing (I think). I also agree that my body losing weight on a timetable is ridiculous, but I wanted a rate to compare to. If I lose 20 lbs in the next 5 months I'll be thrilled :).
