Here’s more Intelligence 2 Go. Did you know there’s a reason why we can’t quit the junk food habit? It’s because one of the ingredients is as addicting as cocaine!

A study at the University of Ontario found that high fructose corn syrup is just as addictive as cocaine. The researchers studied how rats responded to large amounts of high fructose corn syrup; the more syrup they had the harder they worked to get more – exactly how people behave when, seriously, addicted to cocaine.

And that addictive behavior, it could be responsible for our obesity problem. The researchers say we don’t think too much about the impact junk food has on our brain and behavior, but now we should because there’s a definite link.

It's good that you mentioned this. I was in the grocery store two days ago and just scanning a shelf to see if I needed anything there, and I saw a product that said "Healthy Fructose." I just laughed and walked away. Manufacturers are already trying to get away with fooling the public. How many people would look at the back and search to see if the label said high fructose corn syrup?

Reminds me of those commercials about a year ago where the two moms were questioning the fructose and tried to convince the other 'nothing wrong with it'. It's as if the advertiser wants us all sick and addicted beginning with raising children on it. Scary stuff.

But... in all fairness... our parents or grandparents lived thru generations when cocaine was in cola and doctors recommended cigarettes as healthy. So this is nothing new. I'm amazed we haven't phased our population out by now.

I was smart enough as a teenager to see that I was addicted to cookies, so I knew then that I'd better stay away from drugs. I told myself if it was so hard for me to give up Oreos, imagine drugs... that was my thought process at the time. After trying marijuana, at 18, I knew that I liked it and had a lot of fun on it, but I also knew that I wasn't addicted, the way I was addicted to those Oreos. I knew that for me, I had one addiction - Food, and all the rest I use to call my satellite addictions. In reality, just bad habits, but I was careful and used everything in moderation because I knew it was a fine line to cross. I never did try any other drugs than pot, for that exact reason. Today, I feel I am addiction free, if I follow the right eating path.

I watched a 60 Minutes segment on this topic a few years ago. Chemists in labs experimented with flavor additives and their addictive properties. Frightening conspiracy!
