Does anyone know how I can work out calories for soup? I just made home made veggie soup but I'm struggling to work out the calories for the serving I just ate

There's two options - but difficult now after you've already made it. You can use the cookbook function on the app (diary, at the top scroll left to find cookbook), you then weigh and input every ingredient you put in to a recipe. You can then weigh out your serving (in the beginning you might say it makes 2 servings), I always weigh out the end product. Or you can do old school and you get a piece of paper with columns for calories/protein/fat/carbs/fibre. You list each and every weighed item you put in your soup and total at the bottom - then weigh out the total quantity made (as some moisture is lost during cooking the total grams of what you put in isn't accurate), and then weigh out your portion. Only way I'm afraid, and they are both long, but if you want accuracy that's it. I sometimes make mine separate from everyone else's, then just have to in put every one of the weighed ingredients in to my app as is,without having to work out servings etc

If using your paper method must use the app to look up the calories and macros of each item line for line as you go. Total the calories and macros, weigh out the end product to get the total grams made (now you have the calories and macros for total grams), and then take my serving and weigh it out

Vegetable soup is so low in calories and generally lower in carbs unless it has a ton of potatoe, I wouldn't get to anal about it and just choose a generic vegetable soup from the fatsecret database, but it's entirely up to you.

You can add each ingredient in and save the meal. Will take an extra few minutes but you will only have to do it once for every meal you save. After that you can select from the meals you have saved. That way, you are logging your exact calories. Many people complain that they don’t know why they are not losing because they have been eating below their RDI but in fact they haven’t been logging correctly. If you add a lot of olive oil or butter, etc. It would make a huge difference in the calories of your vegetable soup. As well as what type of veggies you are using, or if you are using home made chicken stock or cube stock etc.

For soups I use a bowl food scale.

Thanks so much everyone. I always weigh out my ingredients. But I ended up adding a recipe in the app. It's a bit tricky to navigate as I can't select grams of portion only number of servings lol. I ended up rounding off my servings which would be 2 servings. The calories are a bit over according to that but as long as i have an idea it'll do :) The soup consisted of 2 red onion, 2 sweet potatos, quarter pumpkin, 4 carrots, 1 granny Smith apple,50 grams sweet corn, a bunch of baby spinach, 150ml milk and 1 chicken stock block made in 1 litre water. So either way it would be low in calories
