I know I risk boring all of you to death with stories of my cute niece - but I just have to share another story about her today!

Tonight I babysat again for my two nieces. Lauren, the soon-to-be five year old, leans on my leg as I'm working on some Christmas decorations and says, "We learned some new things at school today." She's in preschool three days a week. I looked up at her and she is looking at me like she is a little embarrassed.

I asked what she was learning.

"Today we heard a story about the baby Jesus."

I said, "That's great. You know, that's why we celebrate Christmas. We celebrate the day baby Jesus was born."

She looks at me a little embarrassed and with a look of skeptism. I didn't know where this was coming from. "I know," she says, a little frustrated. Then, hesitantly, she says, "Will you tell me something."

"Of course, honey. What is it?"

"Is it a true story?"

"Oh yes. It is a very true story." She seems a little more reassured. But she's still leaning on me. I know we aren't done yet.

"It's kinda sad," she says, very matter-of-fact like.

"Why is it sad? Its a good thing. Jesus did many good things for us, Lauren." This is my response.

"Well, yeah," she says. "But he was born in a barn and had to sleep in a manager."

Yes, that is sad. Who wants to sleep in a manager. ha!!! I smiled and told her that he turned out fine. "I know," she says and walks away.

Kids crack me up.

"I know." Hahahaha :) My daughter, Holly (she just turned 4 last week) says "I know" all the time....like "of course, who doesnt know?" It sounds like Lauren is quite the thoughtful little girl.

Children go through this "I know" phase. I think they are embarrased when they don't know something and think that they should. Love the stories. My nephew is 4 and he's a little charmer. Right now he is into dinosaurs and he knows the proper names for the different ones and which ones are meat eaters vs. plant eaters. When Daddy or Grandpa try to tell him the wrong thing just to tease him, like that Tyranosaurus is a vegetarian, he says "that's not right, stop messing with me".
