Diario de Shannon_21, 14 nov. 08

Well, I had my 8 week appointment yesterday. There is one heart beating :) It was cool to see the head, arm and leg buds, and bum :) Its crazy how cells proliferate so quickly! I thought I was 9 weeks..come to find out, I read the calendar funny :) So, I really did begin morning sickness at 6 weeks on the nose..just like with my last two kids. It is getting gradually better, but my eating habits need to be fixed.

THis morning for breakfast, I had an orange (for some reason, it quells nausea this time around), a few walnuts, and a few cubes of cheese. That sounds decent, right? Well anyhow, its not the mornings that are the hardest but the evenings...or late afternoons.

I have absolutely zero desire to drink. Im lucky if I drink 8oz of anything a day. I wonder why? And the strangest of all...my desire for coffee (b/c I was drinking 2-3 cups/day before pregnancy) is gone. How weird!!!! I used to be a starbucks fanatic. When I get in line, the best I can do is a Chai Tea. Good think I like those too!

I suppose I can scarf down eggnog and apple cider, so maybe its more of a water thing than a drink thing. Id better keep an eye on my calories. Ill bet Im packing away 2000 cal/day. Good grief. I wont go on the scale!

My sz 6 pants are either too snug to wear...or soon to be too snug. I just need to be careful.

How many calories did the doc say you should be having? When my sister was pregnant her doctor told her to stay around 2000 - and try to make healthy choices. Sound like you're doing good with the healthy choices. But you do need to get those liquids in somehow!!

Yes, I gained 5 pounds already of fat. I can tell its fat b/c my mid section is chunky. That and Ive wolfed down at least a candy bar a day. But that candy bar helps my m/s better than any other food...sad to say :)

How fun to hear the heart beat. Don't worry about the weight right now. Just keep trying to make the good food choices. Maybe get those small sized candy bars and stick to one a day instead of a whole bar. Just don't eat the whole bag! LOL. ;) 2000 cals per day is not bad when pregnant. The general rule of thumb is to add 300 calories to your maintenance number of calories after the first 12 weeks. You are not supposed to increase calories until the second trimester. For instance if you can maintain your weight at 1500-1800 cals, beginning in the second trimester you could go up to 1800-2100 calories just fine and not gain too much. I work in an OB/GYN clinic and that is what they recommend, but check with your doctor. I asked the diabetic educator about gaining weight when I get pregnant and she says as long as I balance my protein with my net carbs AT EACH MEAL I won't gain too much weight. She suggests eating at least as much protein as you have carbs at every meal. That will allow you to not gain weight when you are not in ketosis, which it isn't safe to be when you are pregnant. Try to figure out why you crave junk food late in the day. If you have a drop in energy at the same time every day try to have more regular snacks with some good carbs and protein combined so you don't have a drop in energy. Many small meals because it is important to keep fueling that growing baby. :)

For instance if you have 2 eggs with your orange at breakfast, the 12 grams of protein balance out your 12 g nc in that meal so your insulin doesn't spike. :)

eggs? Yeah. Im lucky if I can gnaw on cheese :) It will get better in a few weeks. Morning sickness is weird anyhow..Meat isnt doing it for me.. it lays heavy on my belly making me feel sicker. Carbs seem to do the trick, oh well...Im hoping after this trimester, I can even out and eat that way you mentioned Sara. Time will tell.
