The first 10 days of the cut are going fine - it's not fun when you've just spent a year eating 3200-3300 calories/day, but it's not particularly difficult. The scale is moving south slowly, and I'm already seeing some faint quad separation - there wasn't much fat there to begin with.

The biggest problem with the cut has been lifting heavy. Restricting calories while getting sufficient protein and fat necessarily means restricting carbohydrate, and while I'm still around 200-230/day, it is making the workouts noticeably more difficult. Recovering is slower too, without being able to go swimming in food when I'm done.

The next order of business is deciding whether I want to bother sticking to the restricted calories during the vacation. Just 8 days left to figure it out...

I can barely relate to anything you said except the "swimming in food when I'm done." LOL I worked out hard last night and when I got home I was famished! But then later in the evening I didn't feel so good. I didn't eat a lot but it HAD been a while since I was on the Precor machine for 30 minutes. Love that thing. Burns lots of calories!

Are you only lifting or do you do lots of cardio too?

It usually takes me an hour or so after exercise before I have much appetite at all - but then being able to pig out on a bulking calorie budget really helps. Maybe when I was 20, I wouldn't have noticed a difference, but all sorts of parts are audibly creaking in the mornings now~

It's mostly lifting - you get cardiovascular benefits from that as well. I will do some cardio about once a week, though. In the meantime, I'm just starting with a small calorie deficit and minimal cardio. That way, if my progress slows too much or stalls, I have other cards to play. Don't need to go all-out right from the start.

Good Job Nimm!! I bet by the time you post another photo the new defintion will be great. And on your vacation, have some fun and go over just once or twice!

The big question - are you working out while on vacation? I have a hard time NOT working out even when it is vacation but in doing so it allows me to "let loose" a little more while being away. If you do intend to squeeze some sort of workouts (obviously it is going to be modified in some way/shape/form), then you let off on restrictions. It does not hurt too knowing that you have been in a caloric deficit for 10 days, a significant calorie shock may be beneficial when you get back home and settle back into reduction for metabolic sake.

Wow, gerdik, it's been a while. Good to see you again! I plan to do some lifting while we're away - the hotel has not one but 2 decent gyms. Whether that actually happens is another matter though. And @Rubie-sue: Thank you, and congratulations on getting through your own plateau :)

Good to see you have not missed a beat on here! I on the other hand fell off of tracking calories, was just doing audits but now am in a weight gain mode and REALLY am trying at this point to get the extra calories in. The only way to do that is to know my expenditures and makes sure I make up for it so here I am! Anyways, it looks like you have come a long way with your goals (be it gains or losses). Always inspiring buddy.
