Ketogenic low-carbohydrate diets have no metabolic advantage over nonketogenic low-carbohydrate diets.

Now, couple that with the 31 metabolic ward studies that show that there is no difference in fat loss when protein and calories are equated and you have solid evidence that diet comes down to personal preference, pick the foods/diet that suits you.

not disagreeing but what if the protein level is not the same, no studies?? just curious. I know a group that advocates for much less protein levels and they do extremely well I just am not comfortable going too low on protein with my work level.

The reason protein makes a difference is because more lean body mass is retained and two it has a higher thermic effect by far. If the protein wasn't controlled there would be no telling which is actually better(HC or LC). You can still lose weight and have good results on low protein but those results would be better with more of it.

i just did a research project on this. Too many macronutrients in a diet lead to weight gain and health issues. It is best to eat a diet balanced in macronutrients along with more whole grains and fruits and vegetables than meat. Of course, ketogenic is good for certain health issues. Carb high diet is good for endurance athletes and protein high diet for body builders as long as it is not all the time, only once in a while, for like a week, then back to normal eating.

I do keto, but I've always said it's not right for everyone. I'm an 'all or nothing' person, so no French fries works; one or two French fries fit in my macros doesn't. I did Atkins years ago, but the fat was the missing piece. But, I also can listen to my body: hungry, eat; not hungry, don't. And fat keeps the hunger at bay. Every diet I've ever seen works, and likely that's a simple calorie in/calorie out equation. So, yes: pick the WOE that works for you, your personality, and your life. We've been having a godawful heat wave, and one day last week I got a pizza because damn if I was gonna cook. Because that's what works with my life.

So, I broke down and watched a youtube video featuring Dr. Fung. So if what he says is true, calories don't matter and you cannot eat donuts before bed etc, how am I seeing success? He says it is all about the insulin. I am spiking my insulin many times a day. How are bodybuilders who are counting their calories/macros precisely able to get into amazing shape? How do bodybuilders who eat 6-8 times a day lose fat? How am I in the best shape I've been in a long time with 55-60% carbs much that comes from sugar? He is good at his job of selling a book, I have to admit. Taking advantage of people. Sad. He keeps talking about if you keep your insulin high, you can't lose weight but who is able to keep their insulin high all day when they are in a deficit? Insulin raises in response to food true, but it comes down pretty quickly when the meal is small and slower when it is large but it comes down eventually if you're in a deficit and you will lose fat just as well as on a diet that is HFLC. This post has all the info needed to disregard his hypotheses. I had no idea how insane his info was until now.

i often read your posts...I’ve been watching Ken d berry..easier to not fall asleep while watching...for some of us we burn sugar differently...wish I could eat the junk food..but when I do...I gain and it takes forever to get the weight back under control...I know your all about the studies..that’s great...means you debunk what should or shouldn’t work ..but you have to remember...we all don’t or can’t workoo like you do..my workouts are spent riding...something I enjoy that doesn’t seem like a workout..you have a great day and look forward to your next post....

If you eat within your RDI is doesn't matter if you workout or not. I am not understanding what you're saying. Sugar isn't special, it doesn't create extra matter from thin air...

Do you think Rosio works out like me? How is she maintaining 115-118 pounds when she eats "junk"? Maybe it's because she eats within her calorie goal.

Besides, this post isn't about telling people to eat processed foods. It is hard to limit your calories when you eat a lot of it. This post was about LC vs. HC diets. You can have a HC diet without resorting to easy to overeat "junk".

What's your calorie intake? Do you weigh your portions and count calories 24/7?

I keep my food menu daily...I’m 70 years old..and not as active as I’d like to be...if some of the weight came off..then I’m thinking that would help my knees

I totally agree. For me healthy choices but what really works is small portions and less pasta bread and rice, more lean meats, veggies and fruits. Also calorie cycling to allow myself treats on the weekends

I do eat carbs lots of it but healthy complex ones and I have lost 30 pounds and continue to lose without working out.

As with any studies for or against your point - you should always scrutinize them to see how the study was done and how that could affect outcomes Duration of study with ketogenic diets is important and affects outcomes - the first there weeks on ketogenic diet the body is still undergoing metabolic process changes So in that first study of 6 week duration the Keto diet has a “3 week” trial and the other group had a full 6 weeks so to speak - other studies I am Keto and it works best for me and my situation (weight loss was not the motivation behind starting it medical reasons were) There are multiple paths to follow on your individual journey- just be aware/scrutinize/do your own homework etc. Choices have to be yours and you have to be able to sustain the choices you make - Keto or not - so do what fits best for you
